Act Immediately if You Have Been Injured at WorkIf you have an on-the-job injury you must notify your employer immediately. You should report your injury even if it does not seem serious, and even if your employer encourages you not to do so. It is very common for a serious injury to feel minor initially—back injuries, neck injuries, and soft tissue injuries commonly feel as if they will get better with a little time and rest. Unfortunately, failure to notify your employer at the time of the injury could lead to your claim being turned down. Don't Give UpIf you didn't notify your employer, don't give up on your Workers' Compensation claim. Many people are initially turned down by their company's Work Comp insurance company because they did not tell their employer about the accident or injury right away. However, there are many reasons why your claim may still be paid. For example, if your boss was standing right there when you were injured, the fact that you did not notify him or her may not matter. Or, if you were taken to the hospital from work, even if you weren't in the office, you may still be able to make a legitimate compensation claim if your spouse told your boss about the injury within two weeks. Whatever your situation, it is important to talk to a lawyer. There is a lot at stake—your medical bills, prescription drug charges, and other costs are adding up, and if you can't work, you may have trouble making ends meet.
